The Lyceum Discussion Group (LDG) is an element of the New York Academy of Sciences/Lyceum Society (retired and semi-retired NYAS scientists).

The group meets monthly at 7 WTC, at 11:30 during the social hour, for about an hour before the Lyceum organized program. It typically has 4-8 participants.

Interests include the philosophy of science, neuroscience, ethical decision brain modules, music cognition, self-knowledge, and educational development and theory.

2-3 shared topics for development are on the floor to be explored during the year, either in sequence or rotation. Sources are shared among the members of the group via printouts and this website.

In May of 2013 the LDG presented a panel discussion of the topic “Brain and Mind: Knowledge and Ignorance” with 4 speakers — Uldis Blukis, Charles Byrne, Herb Klitzner, and Hillel Schiller, who each gave 15 minute presentations. The panel moderator was the able and charming Ed Harris. The presentation was followed by a lively question and answer period

Roughly 40 people attended, including a number of outsiders, among them a group from the New Biological Club led by Renat Shaykhiev, a neuroscience researcher at the Weill Cornell Medical College.
